Lepidoptera and associated parasitoids attacking Hass and non-Hass avocados in Guatemala.
A 5-mo survey for fruit feeding Lepidoptera attacking Hass and non-Hass avocados (Persea americana Miller [Lauraceae]) was conducted in Guatemala from 1 November 2006 to 1 April 2007. In total, 6,740 fruit were collected from 22 different areas in Guatemala. Eight species of Lepidoptera, of which at least two are species new to science, were reared from avocado fruit. Reared Lepidoptera were Am...
متن کاملSpecies Composition and Diversity of Parasitoids and Hyper-Parasitoids in Different Wheat Agro-Farming Systems
Insect communities depend on both their local environment and features of the surrounding habitats. Diverse plant communities may enhance the abundance and species diversity of local natural enemies, which is possible due to a higher abundance and species diversity in complex landscapes. This hypothesis was tested using cereal aphid parasitoids and hyper-parasitoids by comparing 18 spring wheat...
متن کاملA new species of Metaeuchromius (Lepidoptera, Crambidae) from the Tibetan glacier area of China
Metaeuchromiusglacialis Li, sp. n. is described from the Tibetan glacier area of China. The new species is similar to Metaeuchromiuscirce Bleszynski by the distal projection of costa exceeding the apex of valva, and the phallus with strong spine-like cornuti in the male genitalia. Images of male adult, tympanal and scent organs as well as genitalia of the new species are provided.
متن کاملImpact of a novel species of Nosema on the southwestern corn borer (Lepidoptera: Crambidae).
A study was undertaken to elucidate the impact of an undescribed Nosema sp. on the southwestern corn borer (SWCB; Diatraea grandiosella Dyar). The Nosema sp. (isolate 506) included in the study was isolated from an overwintering SWCB larva in Mississippi. It was highly infectious per os, with a median infective dose of 2.0 x 10(3) spores per larva. Even at the highest dosage tested (10(7) spore...
متن کاملRe-evaluation of sugarcane borer (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) bioeconomics in Louisiana
The sugarcane borer, Diatraea saccharalis (F.) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), is the key insect pest of sugarcane, Saccharum spp., grown in Louisiana. For more than 40 years, Louisiana sugarcane farmers have used a value of 10% internodes bored at harvest as the economic injury level (EIL). Three plant-cane studies were conducted to re-evaluate the long-standing sugarcane borer EIL level using the m...
